The Different Spatial and Temporal Variability of Terrestrial Water Storage in Major Grain-Producing Regions of China

Irrigation is an important factor affecting the change of terrestrial water storage (TWS), especially in grain-producing areas. The Northeast China Plain (NECP), Huang-Huai-Hai (HHH) and middle lower reaches Yangtze River Basin (YRB) are major regions China, with particular climate conditions, crops irrigation schemes. However, there few papers focusing on different variation pattern between NECP, HHH YRB. In this paper, characteristics anomaly (TWSA) groundwater three mentioned above from 2003 to 2014 were analyzed, main reasons for variations also discussed. result shows that although effective irrigated areas increased all regions, TWSA only decreased other two have shown increasing trend. Spatially, deficit was more serious south NECP HHH. impacted by meteorological condition anthropogenic stress (e.g., irrigation). consumption has a greater impact than YRB mainly conditions. case, we suggest structure agricultural planting should be adjusted reduce irrigation.
